January 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Friends, as we start this new year, I am reflecting on all the small and powerful moments that have brought us to where we are today. I recently arrived home from Burma in the continuation of a journey that started eight years ago on a small plastic mat in the apartment of strangers who I now call family. Many birthday parties, camping adventures, homework sessions, spicy dinners, swimming lessons, and countless wresting matches have culminated in a kinship that has changed my life forever.
What a journey it’s been!
Many of you have been along for the ride, seen pictures, or heard stories about Jesse and his Karen family. Some of you may have heard of my social entrepreneurial projects in Burma. And now, all of you are reading about my newest venture of solidarity with the Karen/Karenni people, The Urban Village.
The Urban Village has already established itself as a hub for connection, collaboration, and kinship within the 20,000 strong Karen/Karenni people in St. Paul. In the upcoming year we have big goals of becoming an education center for parents seeking to understand how to support their child’s education through our Family Academy program. In order to reach this goal, we need your support. Please join us for one of the 5 open houses as we share about this exciting vision. Invite a friend, come hungry for tasty Karen food, and hear what our solidarity can achieve together! Eh Pah Doh (Big Love)!
